We're hiring: Community Manager (Freelance)

We are art lovers, curators and creatives and believe in transforming our homes and wardrobes with original items reflecting our personality and style. Our online shop sells art prints, stationery, phone cases and t-shirts designed by talented black artists from all over the world (Lagos, Johannesburg, London, Paris, Kampala…).

We are looking for a freelance Community Manager to help us share these stories with the world and help us grow our brand. This is a great opportunity for a freelancer wanting to leave their mark and flex their storytelling skills. There is scope for a long-term collaboration and to take on more responsibilities.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Develop content for our blog, social media channels and distributed media
  • Manage social media channels: schedule & post content ; engage with community ; build following
  • Look for opportunities to drive increased social media coverage
  • Liaise with influencers, brand ambassadors and bloggers to promote the brand
  • Send monthly & ad hoc newsletters
  • Grow the mailing list
  • Assist with PR activities
  • Work on brand collaborations
  • Develop tactics to grow traffic to the online shop

What we offer:

  • Remote and flexible work
  • Starting at 5 hours / week, with a possibility to increase those hours
  • We pay freelancers on time and are happy to work with you directly or through a freelance platform
  • Rates are to be discussed
  • We have 2 graphic designers in the team, to help produce graphics

We ask:

  • Based in the UK
  • Trustworthy & reliable
  • Analytical and creative mind; able to work independently on projects
  • Knowledge and affinity for black / pop / African culture (you know what Gwara is and have an opinion about Childish Gambino’s latest video)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, written and verbal
  • Entrepreneurial attitude ; target and results driven

Essential skills & experience:

  • 3 - 5 years experience in digital marketing  / social media management (Facebook & Instagram), preferably for lifestyle brands
  • Proven copywriting skills: you can write a mean headline as well punchy and engaging medium-length copy
  • Newsletter & mailing list management with Mailchimp
  • Understanding of analytics
  • Use of key social media tools scheduling and research tools (Buffer, Keyhole, etc…)

Desirable skills:

  • Intermediate graphic design skills
  • Knowledge of CMS platforms
  • Experience of managing other freelancers
